What we test, what we hold, and what we don't

Every claim on this page has a document behind it, with a number and a date. Where there is no file, we say so and give you the timeline. This is why some sentences below are shorter than what you will read on other supplier sites.

How an order gets checked

Five points get checked before a helmet leaves the line in Yueqing.

  1. Incoming material. Shell compound, liner foam, strap webbing and LED modules are checked against the sample we signed off. LED modules get a function test, every unit in an LED order.
  2. Shell before paint. Shells are inspected for sink marks, flash and warpage, then washed. Racks of unpainted shells sit in the same hall as the paint line, so we can watch the count move.
  3. Assembly line. Visor fit, strap routing, buckle travel and liner seating are checked at the bench, not at the end of the hall. Rework stays on the line.
  4. Pre-shipment random inspection. Sampling follows ISO 2859-1. We run AQL 1.0 on safety items (strap and buckle, shell integrity, LED wiring), AQL 2.5 on general workmanship, AQL 4.0 on cosmetic items such as decal alignment.
  5. Loading. Carton count, carton condition and container stow are photographed before the doors close. Those photos go into the same mail as the shipping documents.

The inspection report travels with the shipment documents. You do not have to ask for it separately, and we do not bill for it.

Four things these documents do not say

We would rather explain this once, in writing, than have a buyer find it out at the customs desk.

FMVSS 218 works by self declaration. In the United States there is no government-issued DOT helmet certificate. A manufacturer tests, declares conformity and labels the helmet. Our SGS report is third-party evidence supporting that declaration for model 225, where impact peaks measured 178.5 g and 183.8 g against a 400 g limit. We write "tested to FMVSS 218", never "DOT certified".

EN 1078 is not a motorcycle helmet standard. EN 1078 covers pedal cyclists, skateboards and roller skates. EU motorcycle helmets fall under UNECE R22, which sits outside the PPE Regulation. The CTG certificate for model 225 is real and it is current, but we do not use it to claim CE approval for a motorcycle helmet. Buyers who need R22 approval should read the next section.

RoHS is a substance restriction, not a product certification. The six textile reports confirm restricted substances were not found under IEC 62321 test methods. The certificate text itself states the CE mark is applied by the manufacturer after its own declaration of conformity. We do not present RoHS as CE product approval.

ISO 9001 here covers selling, not making. The scope on 48925Q0587R0S reads selling car covers, raincoats, windbreakers and pet clothing. It does not cover manufacturing, and it does not cover helmets. It tells you the trading operation is audited once a year.

One more limit, and it applies to all of the above: every certificate covers the model that was submitted. The 225 report and certificates cover model 225. They do not cover the other 94 helmet styles in our catalog.

What we do not have yet

  • ECE R22.05 and R22.06 type approval for the EU and the UK. Target for R22.06 is Q2 2027. Until it lands, our EU and UK helmet business runs on the non-certified categories and on buyers who handle their own approval.
  • SNI for Indonesia, SONCAP for Nigeria, INMETRO for Brazil, NTC for Colombia, QCVN for Vietnam, INCAP for Central America.
  • EN 1621-1 for riding armour, EN 13594 for gloves, EN 343 for rainwear water resistance, EN ISO 20471 for high visibility.

We are taking these one quarter at a time, one market approval per quarter. About 60 SKUs sit outside certified categories, which is what our Indonesian, Vietnamese and Latin American buyers start with while an approval is pending. If a market requires a certificate we do not hold, we will tell you on the quotation, not after the deposit.

The claim we could make, and don't

One of our Yueqing suppliers states DOT compliance across its flip-up, adventure, full face and half-helmet lines, and the wording appears on its own price list. We have not received the test report files. Until we do, we do not advertise that line as DOT tested and we do not put it in a certificate pack. If you are ordering that line for the US, assume you are buying at your own risk on certification until we publish the reports.

Inspection, samples and claims

Third-party inspection. Name your agency, SGS, BV, TUV or Intertek, and we book the date at the plant. You pay the agency. We do not charge for access or for the working day it takes.

Golden sample. After sample approval, one helmet is sealed and signed by both sides and stays at the plant, and a second one stays with us. Every production batch is compared against it, not against a photograph.

Defects. Report within 30 days of receipt with photos and the SKU. We either reissue the units on your next order or offset them on the invoice. We do not take returns, because two-way freight on helmets costs more than the helmets do.

Ask for the pack

Write to us and we send the certificate pack for the model you are looking at: the seven documents above, the inspection report format we use, and the sample sign-off sheet. If a document you need is not in the list, ask anyway. You will get a straight no and a date, instead of a paragraph of vague reassurance.
